Anna Zeigler's Dov and Ali makes its New York premiere Off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Studio, opening June 12.

Following its London premiere last year, the production began performances June 5 and continues through June 27 under the direction of Playwrights Realm artistic director Katherine Kovner.

The cast features Lortel nominee Utkarsh Ambudkar (Animals Out of Paper), Heidi Armbruster (Tea and Sympathy), Anitha Gandhi ("Starting Out in the Evening") and Adam Green (Election Day).

"Once upon a time, in the middle of a school, in the middle of Detroit, in the middle of the United States of America, there was a confused teacher and a precocious student," according to Dov and Ali press notes. "When Dov, an orthodox Jew and Ali, a strict Muslim, get caught in a cultural crossfire, both are confronted with the same choice: Will they stand by their beliefs or face the devastating consequences?"

The creative team includes Steven Kemp (set design), Daniel Kluger (sound design), Traci Klainer (lighting design) and Oana Boetz-Ban (costume design).

Zeigler is also the playwright of BFF, Photograph 51, Life Science, In the Same Room, The Minotaur, Variations on a Theme and Everything You Have. For tickets, priced $20-$30, phone (212) 239-6200 or visit PlaywrightsRealm. The Cherry Lane Studio is located at 38 Commerce Street in Manhattan.
