News "Downton Abbey" Star Laura Carmichael Joins Cast of West End's Uncle Vanya Laura Carmichael, best known for her role as Edith Crawly in TV's "Downton Abbey," will make her West End debut in a new production of Uncle Vanya, beginning performances at the Vaudeville Theatre Oct. 25, prior to an official opening Nov. 2.

She joins the previously announced Ken Stott, Anna Friel and Samuel West. In the play, Vanya (Stott), Yelena (Friel), Astrov (West) and Sonya (Carmichael) are all in love, with the past, with ideals and with each other. As their universe shifts around them, they struggle to keep their emotions at bay.

Carmichael's other television and film credits include "The Heart of Thomas Hardy," "House at the End of Our Street" and "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy." Previous stage appearances include regional runs in Plenty (at Sheffield Crucible) and The London Cuckolds, A Chaste Maid in Cheapside, The Vicar of Wakefield and As You Like It (all Bristol Old Vic).
