It begins performances Oct. 13, prior to an official opening Oct. 18, for a run through Nov. 26.
Gillan joins the previously announced Douglas Hodge, who returns to the Donmar Warehouse where he has previously appeared in its productions of Guys and Dolls (Donmar in the West End at the Piccadilly Theatre) and Pinter’s The Collection and The Lover; Hodge is also an associate director for the Donmar, where he has directed Dimetos, Murder in the Cathedral and Absurdia. Most recently he starred in the West End and on Broadway in La Cage aux Folles, winning both the Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical.
Hodge plays Bill Maitland, a middle-aged lawyer, struggling to avoid the harsh truths of his life and keep a hold on reality. As those closest to him begin to draw away, he puts himself on trial to fight for his sanity. According to press materials, the play is a portrait of loss, betrayal and defeat.
The production is directed by Donmar associate director Jamie Lloyd, and the cast also includes Esther Hall, Amy Morgan, Daniel Ryan and Al Weaver.
