The gala supports the educational initiatives of The Drama League Directors Project. The black-tie event will include cocktails, dinner and a music revue featuring stars from theatre, film and television.
A Musical Celebration of Broadway, as previously reported, will include Tony Award winners Joel Grey (Anything Goes), Laura Benanti (Gypsy), Donna Murphy (Passion), Debra Monk (Redwood Curtain) and Carole Shelley (The Elephant Man) as well as Elaine Paige (Follies), Cheyenne Jackson (Xanadu), composer Andrew Lippa, Marlo Thomas (Relatively Speaking), Brent Barrett (Annie Get Your Gun), Josh Young (Jesus Christ Superstar), David Elder (Curtains), Marni Nixon (Nine), Jason Graae (A Grand Night for Singing), Eden Espinosa (Wicked), Kevin Clash (“Sesame Street”) and cast members from the original and current companies of Wicked.
The evening's tribute, directed by Evan Pappas, will include selections from Wicked; “Glee”; You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown; Candide; Promises, Promises; Annie; The Music Man; Steel Pier; A New Brain; and The Apple Tree, among others. A Musical Celebration of Broadway is produced by Drama League artistic director Roger T. Danforth, with a book by Stephen Cole and musical direction by Steve Freeman.
Additionally, the Drama League's annual online auction begins Jan. 17 at www.biddingforgood.com/thedramaleague. Highlights include dinner with Liza Minnelli for four at Daniel; two tickets to Richard III at BAM and a backstage meet-and-greet with Kevin Spacey; opening-night tickets and VIP cast party passes for Broadway's Rebecca and Don’t Dress For Dinner; and signed posters of "Harry Potter" (by Daniel Radcliffe) and Wicked (by Chenoweth), among others.
