News "Dreamgirls" Star Cast in "Sex and the City" Film Jennifer Hudson, who won the Academy Award for her emotional portrayal of Effie White in the movie musical "Dreamgirls," will be part of the cast of the upcoming "Sex and the City" film.

Hudson, according to Variety, is in final negotiations to play Sarah Jessica Parker's assistant in "Sex and the City: The Movie," which will begin filming Sept. 19. The film reunites the four stars of the long-running HBO series, which ended in 2004: Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon. Michael Patrick King is writing and directing the movie, which is being produced by King, co-star Parker, John Melfi and Darren Star.

Hudson picked up a slew of honors — including the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, the Golden Globe Award and the Screen Actors Guild Award — for playing the role of Effie in the Bill Condon-directed "Dreamgirls," her film debut. Hudson, who was seen in the Actors Fund benefit concert of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, also recently filmed "Winged Creatures."
