News Due to Injury, Mingo, Jr. Steps Into Burgess' Little Mermaid Role Aug. 5 Alan Mingo, Jr. will play the role of Sebastian during the Aug. 5 performance of Disney's The Little Mermaid at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

Mingo, Jr. is stepping into the role created by Tituss Burgess. Due to a foot injury, Burgess, a production spokesperson told Playbill.com, is "on a temporary medical leave of absence and will return to [the production] upon recovery." As of press time, the Mermaid spokesperson was unable to confirm whether Burgess' injury occurred during a performance of the family-friendly musical.

Alan Mingo, Jr., who is featured in the Mermaid ensemble, played Seaweed in the first national tour of Hairspray and Simba in the first national and Los Angeles companies of The Lion King. He also played Tom Collins in Broadway's Rent and was seen in the La Jolla Playhouse production of The Wiz.

Tituss Burgess, who created the role of Sebastian the Crab in Mermaid, has also been seen on Broadway in Jersey Boys and Good Vibrations. His regional credits include The Wiz, La Cage aux Folles and The Civil War. Burgess' TV credits include "The View," "The Today Show" and "Late Night with David Letterman." The actor's solo recording, "Here's to You," is available on iTunes.
