Come rain or come shine, Patty Duke and Tommy Tune will light the 2002 Broadway Holiday Tree in New York's Duffy Square on Dec. 11. Duke, who joins the company of Oklahoma! Dec. 14, and Tune, whose Tommy Tune: White Tie and Tails is currently in previews at the new Little Shubert Theatre, will flip the switch to light the 25-foot white spruce tree at 5:15 PM. The twosome will be joined by cast members from most every Broadway and Off-Broadway show, and the ceremony will begin with performances from Tune; Mamma Mia!'s Judy Kaye, Jeanine Morick and Carol Linnea Johnson; and students from the Professional Performing Arts School.
The ceremony will also include the presentation of a $5,000 check to Hartley House, which has served the residents of Hell's Kitchen and the theatre district for over 100 years. Theatre Development Fund (TDF) and The League of American Theatres and Producers will present the check to Hartley House's executive director, Mary Follett. The settlement house offers programs for community residents of all ages, including counseling, alternative high school programs, evening adult GED classes, afterschool classes, summer camp, family daycare, home outreach for seniors, community outreach and crisis intervention.
Duffy Square is located in New York City at Broadway and 46th Street. The Broadway Holiday Tree is presented by TDF, The League of American Theatres and Producers and The Times Square Business Improvement District (BID).
