Ben Ripley's film casts Hoffman ("Rain Man," "Kramer vs. Kramer") as Choir Master Carvelle, who butts heads with troubled 11-year-old Stet, a child from the wrong side of the tracks who eventually finds his heart and soul in music with the help of Carvelle.
"Boychoir" will also feature Alfred Molina as fellow teacher Drake and Kathy Bates as the school's headmistress as well as young members of the renowned American Boychoir School.
Hoffman received a Tony nomination for his performance in The Merchant of Venice. He has also appeared onstage in Death of a Salesman and All Over Town.
Molina is a three-time Tony nominee (Red, Fiddler on the Roof, Art), whose film credits include "Chocolat," "An Education" and "Spider-Man 2." His TV work includes "Ladies Man," "Bram and Alice" and "Monday Mornings."
Tony nominee Bates starred in 'night, Mother; Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean; and Fifth of July. The Oscar winner's film credits include "Misery," "Primary Colors" and "About Schmidt."
