The Mary Dresselhuis Prijs 1998 has been awarded to the Dutch actor Porgy Franssen, who is currently playing in De Formidabele Yankee in the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The actress Mary Dresselhuis herself handed the award to him after his performance last night.
The Mary Dresselhuis Prijs is a bi-yearly prize worth 25.000 Dutch Guilders (aprox. $12,500 US dollars) and is named after the Dutch actress Mary Dresselhuis by it's initiator Joop van den Ende Theaterprodukties.
The jury, which included Mary Dresselhuis herself, praised Porgy Franssen for his creativity and total commitment to the theatre. The jury called him an excellent actor, who not only plays, but also directs, writes, makes music and in addition is obstinate and artistically adventurous.
De Formidabele Yankee can be seen in Amsterdam until June 4.
