News Dysfunctional Family Sings in Connecticut MainStage's Next to Normal, Starting Oct. 19 The Music Theatre of Connecticut MainStage's production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal, which opens the MTC MainStage 2012-13 season, runs Oct. 19-Nov. 4 at MTC Studio Theatre in Westport, CT.

The cast is led by Juliet Lambert Pratt as Diana, Will Erat as Dan, Elissa DeMaria as Natalie, Tommy Foster as Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine, Logan Hart as Gabe and Jacob Heimer as Henry. Kevin Connors directs.

With book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt, Next to Normal, according to press notes, "explores how one suburban household copes with crisis and mental illness. This contemporary musical is an emotional powerhouse that addresses such issues as grieving a loss, ethics in modern psychiatry, and suburban life. With provocative lyrics and a thrilling score, this musical shows how far two parents will go to keep themselves sane and their family's world intact."

Nominated for 11 Tony Awards, the Broadway production won three, for Best Original Score, Best Orchestration and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Alice Ripley. Next to Normal won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, becoming the eighth musical in history to receive the honor.

The production also features musical direction by David Wolfson, scenic design by Nicholas Schwartz, lighting by John Anselmo, costumes by Diane Vanderkroef and stage management by Jim Schilling.

Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, with matinees Saturdays at 4 PM and Sundays at 3 PM. MTC MainStage Studio Theatre is located at 246 Post Road East (Colonial Green/Lower Level) in downtown Westport, CT. Each performance is followed by a wine and cheese reception where the audience is invited to meet the actors and production team.
