Classic Arts News Edinburgh Festival Releases Preliminary 2005 Schedule The Edinburgh International Festival has scheduled a production of Britten's Curlew River and visits from conductor Donald Runnicles, soprano Magdelena Kozena, and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon for 2005.
The famed festival runs from August 14 through September 4 next year. Officials released a preliminary schedule yesterday, but emphasized that it could change. "Here are just some of the great artists and projects we hope to present," said a release on the festival web site.

Runnicles, the Scottish music director of San Francisco Opera, is to lead the festival's opening night concert. Other conductors on the schedule include Charles Mackerras, Jir‹ Belohlšvek, Herbert Blomstedt, Rinaldo Alessandrini, and Emmanuelle HaÇm.

Singers making appearances include mezzo-soprano Violeta Urmana, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Larmore, baritone Matthias Goerne, and tenor Ian Bostridge; among the instrumental soloists are violinist Christian Tetzlaff, pianist Stephen Hough, and pianist Lars Vogt.

Theatrical events include a festival of Japanese Noh theater.
