The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra has 10,794 subscribers for the 2004-05 season, up 14 percent from the previous season, the orchestra announced.

The ESO reported a renewal rate of 88.5 percent, and said that it had added about 2,400 new subscribers.

"This is very good news for the ESO," said CEO Elaine Calder in a statement. "People who subscribe make up the core of our audiences and our donor base. It's very important that we keep them happy, and wanting to return each season."

Last month, the ESO posted its second consecutive budget surplus, two years after it suffered through a musicians strike and ran a C$1 million deficit.
