Anaïs Mitchell’s award-winning folk opera Hadestown, which played an acclaimed run at New York Theatre Workshop in 2016, will be part of the 2017-18 season at Edmonton's Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, according to The Globe and Mail.

Rachel Chavkin, currently represented on Broadway with the new musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, will again direct, with performances scheduled for November 11-December 3. Chavkin helped develop the new work.

A Canadian cast to be announced will be seen in the production, which is presented in collaboration with Mara Isaacs and Dale Franzen, who produced the Off-Broadway run. Citadel, The Globe and Mail reports, will have a small stake in Hadestown, which is being billed as aiming for a Broadway bow.

The new work, which was the recipient of a Richard Rodgers Production Award, follows Orpheus’ mythical quest to overcome Hades and regain his one true love, Eurydice. The show is inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz. Hadestown was co-conceived by Ben T. Matchstick.
