Film director Tim Burton is aware of the non-Equity production, a spokesperson for the production told Playbill.com, and is allowing it to be explored in this limited test production directed by U.K. stage director Richard Crawford.
Performances will play Bayard Studio Theatre (98 Bayard Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn). Crawford chose the Bayard Studio Theater because "it is a very unique experience," according to production notes. "When you come in there is live music, you get your own candle lit table…you can drink. It's reminiscent of a Parisian speakeasy…"
This production is not to be confused with Matthew Bourne's dance piece Edward Scissorhands.
Burton is the film director, designer and producer known for the hit films "Batman," "Beetlejuice" and the recent hit Disney picture "Alice in Wonderland." His work was recently exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art.
The dark fairy tale seeks to remind "audience members about lost innocence, pure love and the power of evil," according to the producers." It's billed as "a story about a man who was created by a mad inventor in a castle overlooking the perfect Rockwellian suburban hamlet. Unfortunately, Edward's creator dies before he is able to finish what he set out to accomplish. Edward is left alone, isolated from the outside world with blades for fingers. Eventually Edward meets a door-to-door make-up saleswoman, who decides to take him home to live with her family in the town below." Crawford's previous work includes Evanescent and Filthy McNasty presents Dick Biscuit.
The cast of Edward Scissorhands includes Serge Valez as Edward, Alex Kushi as Edward understudy, Kym Tuttle as Peg Boggs, Jerry Gorainick as Bill Boggs, Zoe Rosario as Kim Boggs, Sofia Szamosi as understudy Kim, Stephen Langton as Kevin Boggs, Sally Golan as Joyce Munroe, Lydia Andrien as Esmerelda, Giliuo Gallarotti as Jim, Miles Engel as TV Host, Kristin Brancaccio as Julia, Wendy Brancaccio as Marge, Isabelle Sitterle as Hellen, Micah Kaneko as Inventor and understudy Andrew Dehart.
The creative team includes Tom Taylor and Kelly Armendariz (set design and art direction), Parkar Millar (assistant director), Richard Peete and Corey Brown (film/props), Axel Stasny and Hillary Spoul (stage managers), Fiona Tyson (makeup), Sobe Knight (photography), Michael Simons (artist) and Yana Galbshtein (costumes).
Edward Scissorhands: The Stage Adaptation will play June 25 at 7 PM; June 26 at 7 PM; June 28 at 7 PM; June 29 at 7 PM; June 30 at 1 PM and 7 PM; July 1 at 7 PM; July 2 at 7 PM; July 3 at 1 PM and 7 PM.
