Drew McManus, a classical-music administrator who runs a blog on the web site ArtsJournal.com, has set up a page on which fellow members of the classical music community can offer housing, material assistance, or temporary employment to the LPO musicians. Another page on the blog, artsjournal.com/adaptistration, is devoted to confirming the whereabouts and safety of the orchestra's musicians. As of this morning, postings on the site run dozens of pages.

The web site myauditions.com has also created a clearinghouse for hurricane-related information in its forum section, myauditions.com/groupee. The site includes areas for musicians to post requests for help, a people locator, and a forum for expressions of support.

According to an article in the New York Times today, the LPO itself has set up an operations center in Baton Rouge and has created its own support web site at groups.google.com/group/LPO-family.

LPO musicians told the Times that some of the orchestra's musicians had not been in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck. Of those who were in the city, all but one had been evacuated by September 5, and the remaining player, violinist Burton Callahan, was expected to leave by today.
