Susan Egan, who originated the role of Belle in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast, will star in a production of Amy's View this fall at the International City Theatre (ICT) in Long Beach.
Egan, who also appeared on Broadway in Triumph of Love, will star opposite Carol Lawrence in David Hare's play, which originated in London with Judi Dench, who repeated her role on Broadway to Tony-winning effect. Lawrence will play Esme Allen — the role that Dench created — an aging actress who has a complicated relationship with her daughter Amy (Egan). Previews begin Sept. 3 with an official opening on Sept. 6. Amy's View will conclude its run on Sept. 29.
Egan received Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations for her work in Beauty and the Beast, and her other theatre credits include Cabaret, Triumph of Love, Putting It Together and Hello Again. She recently released her first solo recording, "So Far," which includes tunes from her many theatre outings.
Carol Lawrence originated the role of Maria in the original production of West Side Story. Her other theatrical credits include roles in Nightlife, Saratoga, Subways Are For Sleeping, I Do! I Do! and Kiss of the Spider Woman. Lawrence's television work includes "The Commish," "Murder, She Wrote," "Love Boat," "Hotel," Simon and Simon," "Murder One" and "General Hospital." Her autobiography, "Carol Lawrence: The Backstage Story," is available from McGraw-Hill.
