Classic Arts News El Paso Symphony Names Music Director Texas's El Paso Symphony has named Sarah Ioannides, a former assistant conductor at the Cincinnati Synmphony, its music director.
Ioannides replaces G‹rer Aykal, who retired after 12 years at the end of the 2003-04 season.

Born in Australia, Ioannides grew up in England and studied at Oxford, the Curtis Institute, and Juilliard. In addition to her position at the Cincinnati Symphony, she has served as an assistant to composer Tan Dun and as music director at Swarthmore College. She was recently named music director of the Spartanburg (South Carolina) Philharmonic.
