Singer Rosemary Clooney, composer Marvin Hamlisch (Smile) and Broadway stars Lillias White (The Life) and Karen Mason (Sunset Boulevard) perform at the Pierre Hotel June 12, when the Elaine Kaufman Cultural center honors lyricist and ASCAP president Marilyn Bergman and research scientist and AIDS activist Dr. Mathilde Krim on June 12.

As reported earlier, Bergman will receive the center's Creative Arts Award. Bergman's biography states that she has collaborated with such composers as Michel Legrand, Marvin Hamlisch, Henry Mancini, John Williams and Quincy Jones. Working with her husband, Alan Bergman, she won Oscars for the songs “The Windmills of Your Mind” and “The Way We Were,” and for the score for the Barbra Streisand film, “Yentl.” She has also been awarded two Grammys and three Emmys and serves as the president and chairman of the board of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). Krim will receive the Distinguished Service Award. In addition to her research, Krim is the amfAR Board Chair. According to biographical information, Krim came to New York in 1959 and, in 1962 became a research scientist at the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research. She was the director of its interferon laboratory from 1981 to 1985. Her husband, the late Arthur Krim, was a New York attorney and head of the United Artists Motion Picture Company. In the late '60s, Krim was a vice president of the Elaine Kaufman Cultural Center.

Honorary chairs for the June 12 event include Alan Bergman, Harry Belafonte, Sen. Barbara Boxer, Cy Coleman, Hal David, Quincy Jones, Elaine Kaufman and Barbra Streisand.

Press materials from the Kaufman Center state that the organization provides "dynamic educational resources for adults and young people, and valuable performance opportunities for a diverse range of musicians, composers, and other artists from around the world."

Tickets for the June 12 black tie event ranged from $600 for individuals to $25,000 for a VIP table of 10.
