The stage musical adaptation of Elf, based on the 2003 Will Ferrell comedy, will return this holiday season with engagements in Boston and New York.

Emmy-nominated Cheers star George Wendt, who originated the role of Santa in the 2010 Broadway premiere of Elf, has been announced to return to the role in both cities, beginning with the Boston run (November 28–December 10 at the Wang Theatre).

A New York run will follow December 13–29 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Elf features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by the late Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone).

The production will feature direction by Sam Scalamoni and choreography by Connor Gallagher. Casting by Stewart/Whitley.

Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

The stage musical version of Elf premiered on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in 2010, where it returned for an encore holiday run in 2012. A touring production previously played the Theater at Madison Square Garden 2015. The property was also adapted into a 40-minute stop-animation television musical special for NBC in 2014.
