Classic Arts News Eliot Feld's Ballet Tech Returns With the Mandance Project After a year of suspended operations, Eliot Feld's Ballet Tech returns with a three-week program titled "The Mandance Project" at New York's Joyce Theatre.
The performances, starting tonight, comprise 12 new ballets, all of them premieres, performed by a company of six dancers: Nickemil Concepcion, Jason Jordan, Patricia Tuthill, and Wu-Kang Chen: all former Ballet Tech dancers: along with Damian Woetzel and Sean Suozzi.

A gala performance on October 28 includes an open class of students from Feld's Ballet Tech School and a champagne reception.

Feld founded the 14-dancer Ballet Tech company in 1974, and the Ballet Tech School, which is open by audition to New York City public school children and is tuition-free, in 1978. In the summer of 2003, facing funding problems, he announced that he was shutting down the company, which he founded in 1974, in order to keep the school stable and operating.

Feld has choreographed works for Mikhail Baryshnikov, the New York City Ballet, and the American Ballet Theatre, among others. Feld was also instrumental in the creation of the Joyce, a significant presence in modern dance in New York.
