CHICAGO -- The musical version of Sinclair Lewis' Pulitzer Prize- winning Elmer Gantry has been tried out at Ford's Theatre (twice), then at La Jolla Playhouse.
Marriott's Lincolnshire Theatre, a theatre that likes to re-polish old apples, will give the show another chance -- and its Midwest premiere -- Feb. 4. Previews began Jan. 28 for a run through March 22.
Starring Tom Zemon (who appeared in Les Miserables on Broadway) and Kerry O'Malley (seen in Broadway's Cyrano: the Musical), the show is written by John Bishop (book), Mel Marvin (music) and Robert Satuloff (lyrics).
The plot, familiar from the Oscar-winning 1960 film, pits a Midwestern faith healer against a fast-talking con man -- who teaches her how to save souls with pizzaz.
For tickets ($33) and information on Elmer Gantry at Marriott's Lincolnshire Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive in Lincolnshire, call (847) 634 0200. -- By Lawrence Bommer
