News Embraced by Critics, The Great God Pan Gets Final Added Week in NYC The world-premiere run of Amy Herzog's critically acclaimed drama The Great God Pan, about a Brooklyn journalist recovering memories of possible past sexual abuse, will get a second extension by Off-Broadway's Playwrights Horizons, now to Jan. 13, 2013.

The play by Obie Award-winning playwright Herzog (After the Revolution at PH, 4000 Miles) was originally set to play a limited engagement through Dec. 30. It originally extended to Jan. 6 at PH's Mainstage Theater at 416 W. 42nd Street. The new additional week represents the final extension possible, and includes a special Wednesday matinee on Jan. 9 at 2:30 PM.

Under the direction of Carolyn Cantor, The Great God Pan began previews Nov. 24 and opened Dec. 18.

The cast features Becky Ann Baker, Tony Award nominee and Obie Award winner Peter Friedman, Olivier Award nominee Sarah Goldberg, Keith Nobbs, two-time Lortel Award nominee Jeremy Strong, Joyce Van Patten and Erin Wilhelmi.

Here's how PH bills the 80-minute play: "Jamie's (Strong) life in Brooklyn seems just fine: a beautiful girlfriend (Goldberg), a budding journalism career, and parents (Ms. Baker and Mr. Friedman) who live just far enough away. But when a possible childhood trauma comes to light, lives are thrown into a tailspin. Unsettling and deeply compassionate, The Great God Pan tells the intimate tale of what is lost and won when a hidden truth is unloosed into the world."
