The Connecticut company will present his Off-Broadway hit as the centerpiece of its upcoming 2007 Brand:NEW Fall Festival of New Work. It will play Nov. 4 at 7:30 PM on the company's MainStage.

"Daniel Beaty is one of the most original and exciting theatrical artists creating today, setting audiences on fire with his mix of slam poetry, music, and complex characters," said Hartford Stage artistic director Michael Wilson in an announcement. "Beaty harnesses the full power of theatre and performance to tell a good story, and deliver a message. Read his work or watch him perform and you'll be convinced he is a man with a mission."

As part of the year-long residency, Beaty will receive a commission for a new work to be presented in the fall of 2008; ongoing development of his play Resurrection; and will serve as mentor for young local playwrights involved in the education department's Write On! program.

Beaty's Emergence-SEE! played an extended run Off-Broadway last season at the Public Theater and earned him an Obie Award for Outstanding Writing and Performance.
