Located in the Catskill Mountains, performances run July 24 and 25 only.
Ghost Quartet is a theatrical presentation of chamber music ensemble Ghost Quartet's self-titled album. The show is staged in the round with the musicians seated amongst the audience, and the piece is scored for four voices, cello, guitars, dulcimer, autoharp, piano, keyboards and percussion.
Malloy, Brittain Ashford, Gelsey Bell and Brent Arnold all reprise their performances for the special outdoor rendition, and Annie Tippe again directs. The show follows four friends in a tale spanning seven centuries, featuring a murderous sister, an astronomer, a bear, a subway and the ghost of Thelonious Monk. The musicians are seated among the audience, which is encouraged to participate and partake in the whiskey drinking.
Ghost Quartet was developed with support from Berkeley Repertory Theatre and the Bushwick Starr.
Malloy is a composer, writer and performer whose critically acclaimed electro-pop opera Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 ran Off-Broadway last year. He is the winner of two Obie Awards, the Richard Rodgers Award and a Jonathan Larson Grant. His other shows include Black Wizard/Blue Wizard; All Hands; Three Pianos; Beardo; Beowulf - A Thousand Years of Baggage; The Sewers; Sandwich; Clown Bible; and (The 99-cent) Miss Saigon.
