Grode, 33, was, until recently, the author the Playbill.com column "Stage to Screen," which he filed for just over five years beginning in February 1999. He has also written about about theatre for American Theatre, the New York Times and the Sondheim Review. Like many reporters and critics currently covering the New York theatre, Grode got his start writing for the weekly magazine TheatreWeek, which folded in 1995.
The Sun, a new daily of nearly four years standing, proved a lucky perch for Grode's predecessor, Jeremy McCarter. In May, the 20-something reviewer was chosen to succeed John Simon as New York magazine's chief theatre critic.
