Off-Broadway News   Ernest Shackleton Loves Me Opens Off-Broadway May 7 The new musical from Joe DiPietro and GrooveLily makes its New York debut.

Ernest Shackleton Loves Me officially opens May 7 at Second Stage’s Tony Kiser Theatre. The musical arrived Off-Broadway April 14 following a world premiere in Seattle and subsequent engagements in New Jersey and Boston.

The Q Theatricals production features a book by Tony winner Joe DiPietro and a score by GrooveLily’s Valerie Vigoda and and Brendan Milburn.

Wade McCollum (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) and Vigoda star in the New York premiere, under the direction of Lisa Peterson. Performances are scheduled to run through June 11.

Ernest Shackleton Loves Me previously played Seattle Repertory Theatre, New Brunswick’s George Street Playhouse, and The Paramount at ArtsEmerson. Here’s how production notes bill the show: “This innovative, high-tech adventure tells the story of a sleep-deprived single mom who struggles to work as a video game music composer. Unexpectedly, she is contacted across time by the famous polar explorer, Ernest Shackleton. Inspired by her music, he shares his epic Antarctic journey with her in video and song. Against all odds, they discover that their greatest inspiration lies within each other.”

The creative team includes Ryan O’Connell (music direction), Alexander V. Nichols (production design), Chelsea Cook (costume design), and Tony winner Rob Kaplowitz (sound design and original compositions). The production is produced by Q Theatricals.

The Tony Kiser Theatre (located at 305 West 43rd Street) is home of the Off-Broadway company Second Stage Theatre, though Ernest Shackleton Loves Me is not a Second Stage production. For tickets and more information, visit ernestshackletonlovesme.com.
