Ethan Slater, who earned a Tony Award nomination in 2018 for his Broadway debut performance in SpongeBob SquarePants, will head to Feinstein’s/54 Below August 1 and 2 for his solo debut at the venue.

The actor will examine the question “Why do I write?” throughout the show, weaving anecdotes with songs from musicals he did in high school (such as The Music Man and Pippin), covers of some of his favorite artists (Paul Simon, Bon Iver, The Who), and original tunes.

Since starring as the title absorbent bundle of energy in SpongeBob SquarePants, Slater has appeared on the small screen in Murphy Brown and as Joel Grey on Fosse/Verdon. In February he released his first single, “Richmond Rewrites,” from his in-development musical Write Me In.

Both shows are at 9:30; for tickets (priced at $35–$45 plus a $25 food and beverage minimum), visit 54Below.com.
