Manhattan Theatre Club has announced that the American Repertory Theater production of Eve Ensler’s In the Body of the World has joined its 2017-18 season. From the best-selling author and performer of The Vagina Monologues, comes a new stage adaptation of her acclaimed memoir.
In the Body of the World will begin previews Off-Broadway January 16, 2018, ahead of a February 6 opening night at MTC at New York City Center – Stage I, located at 131 West 55th Street, New York.
The solo piece is written and performed by Tony Award winner Ensler with direction by Tony winner Diane Paulus. In the Body of the World is adapted from Ensler’s 2013 critically acclaimed memoir of the same name, and received its world premiere at A.R.T. in May last year.
The play chronicles Ensler’s relationship to her body in the face of a life-threatening diagnosis. While working with women in the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo, the author, activist, and performer was diagnosed with uterine cancer. The show is billed by MTC as “bold, unflinching and inspiring.”
In the Body of the World joins the previously announced Broadway premiere of Prince of Broadway. Six additional MTC productions will be announced at a later date.
