The world premiere of Whorl Inside a Loop, a new play by Dick Scanlan and Sherie Rene Scott, co-directed by Michael Mayer and Scanlan — the creative team behind the Tony-nominated Everyday Rapture, which had its world premiere at Second Stage Theatre in 2009 — will conclude 2ST's 2014-15 season.

Whorl Inside a Loop, also starring Tony Award nominee Scott (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Aida), will begin performances Aug. 4 at Second Stage's Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd Street).

Additional material is by Milton Jones, Andre Kelley, Marvin Lewis, Felix Machado, Richard Norat and Jeffrey Rivera.

Here's how it's billed: "A well-regarded actress agrees to teach six inmates how to tell their stories behind the bars of a men's maximum security prison. Sharing intimate and sometimes hilarious details of their former lives, this unlikely group forms a bond — even as the actress' life outside spins out of control. And when what happens in prison doesn't stay there, no one is sure who to trust. From the team that brought you Everyday Rapture, this new play features Sherie Rene Scott and six men playing two dozen characters in a constant shifting of scenes, ages, genders and races. Whorl Inside a Loop explores the fine line between convicted felons and the criminal inside each of us, the viability of forgiveness and the unreliability of redemption."

Additional casting for the six men and an opening-night date will be announced at a later date.

"Working with Sherie, Dick, and Michael on Everyday Rapture was one of the most fulfilling and enjoyable experiences of my career and I am thrilled to welcome them back with this new play," said Second Stage artistic director Carole Rothman in a statement. "Sherie and Dick have written a powerful and surprising ensemble work – timely, moving, and full of the honesty, insight, and humor that make their combined voice such a singular delight." Scott returns to Second Stage Theatre where she co-wrote (with Dick Scanlan) and starred in Everyday Rapture in 2009. She received Tony nominations for Best Actress and Best Book of a Musical when the show transferred to Broadway as well as Drama Desk nominations for Best Musical, Actress and Book and Lortel nominations for Leading Actress and Outstanding Musical.

Second Stage Theatre is under the artistic direction of Rothman and executive director Casey Reitz. More information season subscriptions are currently available through 2ST.com or by calling the box office at (212) 246-4422.
