Everything Is Illuminated will officially open Sept. 19 following previews that begin Sept. 14.
Adapted by playwright Simon Block, Foer’s debut novel follows a young Jewish New Yorker who travels to the Ukraine to find and thank the woman who saved his grandfather during the Second World War.
Simon Block’s previous works include Hand in Hand, Chimps, No Exp. Req’d and A Place at the Table.
In 2005 Everything Is Illuminated was adapted for the screen starring Elijah Wood and Ukrainian actor Eugene Hutz.
The Hampstead’s season also includes an Oxford Stage production of Marlowe’s Faustus (Oct 20-Nov 18). That’s followed by The Glass Room (Nov. 23 – Dec, 23) about a Jewish human rights lawyer who has been hired to defend a Holocaust-denying historian, by What We Did to Weinstein writer Ryan Craig.
