News   Evita Star Ricky Martin Receives Spanish Citizenship

Ricky Martin, who will soon star as Che Guevara in the Broadway revival of Evita, was recently granted citizenship to Spain.

Although there were reports that the pop star would marry his longtime partner Carlos González, a spokesperson for the production said that news is untrue.

The performer, a U.S. citizen from Puerto Rico, was granted citizenship Nov. 4 and recognized for his artistic talents.

Martin rose to fame with his 1999 hit song "Livin' la Vida Loca." The performer made his Broadway debut as Marius during the original Broadway run of Les Miserables.

He will begin performances in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Evita at the Marquis Theatre March 12, 2012, prior to an official opening set for April 5.
