Patrick Cassidy

Cassidy (Blood Brothers, Assassins), who also appeared in the Superman-themed television series "Lois and Clark," will star as the musical's villain, Max Mencken. Cassidy's father, Jack Cassidy, originated the role in the original 1966 Broadway production under the direction of Hal Prince.

Young (The Little Mermaid) will star as Lois Lane, with Cavenaugh's wife and Broadway actress Powers (Grease, Happiness, Little Women) as Clark Kent's other love interest, Sydney Sharp. Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Mary Poppins, Spelling Bee) will play Torchy.

Completing the Superman cast are Bob Hess as the Court Jester, Julie Johnson as Scarlet Widow, Matthew Kilgore as Kazam, Cara Serber as Marilyn Nessbit, Paul Taylor as Jack-in-the-Box, Kate Wetherhead (Legally Blonde, Spelling Bee) as Blackbird, Kent Zimmerman as Jupiter James, Hassan El-Amin as Perry White, Sean Hennigan as Mayor Siegel, Cedric Neal as Cadabra, Chris Klink, Addie McDaniel, Mackenzie Warren and Steven Wenslawski.

The Dallas production features additional material penned by Good Boys and True playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is also a writer for such comic books as "Marvel Knights 4" and "Sensational Spider-Man." David Newman and Robert Benton penned the original book for the musical that has a score by Bye Bye Birdie writers Strouse (music) and Adams (lyrics).

As previously reported, DTC artistic director Kevin Moriarty will direct Superman with choreography by Joel Ferrell. Performances run June 18-July 25. An official opening has been set for June 25 in the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. It's a Bird…It's a Plane…It's Superman will have set design by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Jennifer Caprio, lighting by Jeff Croiter and sound design by Robert Kaplowitz. Kimberly Grigsby (Spring Awakening) will musical direct. Additional orchestrations are by Eugene Gwozdz.
