News EXCLUSIVE: Curtis Holbrook Will Be Footloose at the Muny; Casting Complete Curtis Holbrook, whose Broadway credits include West Side Story, Xanadu, All Shook Up and Taboo, among others, will play the rebellious teenager Ren McCormack, who moves to a small town where dance is forbidden, in the St. Louis Muny's upcoming production of Footloose, which will begin performances Aug. 2 at the nation's oldest and largest outdoor theatre.

Directed by Paul Blake with choreography by Michele Lynch, the musical based on the film of the same name will run through Aug. 8.

The cast will also boast the talents of Dee Hoty, re-creating her Broadway role as Vi Moore, as well as Jennifer Prescott (Ethel McCormack), Jeff McCarthy (Rev. Shaw Moore), Meggie Cansler (Ariel Moore), Lee Ann Mathews (Lulu Warnicker), Anthony Cummings (Wes Warnicker), Karin Berutti (Eleanore Dunbar/Doreen), Robert Earl Gleason (Coach Dunbar/Saloon Quartet), Cathryn Basile (Rusty), Ben Crawford (Chuck Cranston), Kevin Massey (Willard Hewitt) and Gary Glasgow (Principal Clark/Saloon Keeper).

The ensemble will comprise Matthew Bauman, Matthew Braver, Amanda Choate, Kandace Coleman, Alex DeLeo, Lili Froehlich, Courtney Leigh Halford, Katie Hart, Colin Hartman, Leeds Hill, Laura Irion, Julie Kavanagh, Ryan Koss, Ashley Krupinski, Taylor Louderman, Kenny Metzger, Kelly O'Neill, Charles Osborne, Emily Knox Peterson, Whit Reichert, Adam Rogers, Ted Stevenson and James Tolbert.

Footloose was adapted for the stage by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie. It features music by Tom Snow, lyrics by Pitchford with additional numbers by Kenny Loggins, Sammy Hagar, Jim Steinman and Eric Carmen.

The upcoming production will feature musical direction by Andrew Graham, set design by Steve Gilliam and lighting design by F. Mitchell Dana. The production stage manager is Nevin Hedley; the assistant stage manager is Lorraine LiCavoli; and the production assistant is Ben Plocher. Eric Fogel is the assistant choreographer. Paul Blake produces for The Muny; the associate producer is Mike Bosner.

Footloose was seen on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it opened in October 1998, playing 18 previews and 709 regular performances before closing July 2, 2000. Directed by Walter Bobbie, the cast featured Jeremy Kushnier as Ren, the role created on film by Kevin Bacon.

Dean Pitchford penned the 1984 film, which was directed by Herbert Ross. In addition to Bacon, the cast also featured Lori Singer, John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Chris Penn, Sarah Jessica Parker and John Laughlin.

The remainder of the season includes Cats,  now through July 25; The Sound of Music, July 26-Aug. 1; Footloose, Aug. 2-8; and Show Boat, Aug 9-15.
