News EXCLUSIVE: Kennedy Center Launches Website Commemorating 10th Anniversary of Stephen Sondheim Celebration The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has launched a new website commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 2002 Stephen Sondheim Celebration, which featured productions of A Little Night Music, Merrily We Roll Along, Passion, Sweeney Todd, Company and Sunday in the Park with George.

The website features interviews with composer-lyricist Sondheim; Eric Schaeffer, who was the artistic director for the Sondheim Celebration; and video footage of concert performances by several stars of the Celebration, including John Barrowman, Alice Ripley, Judy Kuhn, Michael Cerveris and more. In related news, the Kennedy Center is seeking nominations for the 2013 Kennedy Center/Stephen Sondheim Inspirational Teacher Awards, a series of annual grants that recognize inspiring teachers across the United States. Now in their third year, the awards were created in honor of Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday and are funded through the support of arts philanthropists and friends of Sondheim, Freddie and Myrna Gershon. Last year, ten eachers, who each received a $10,000 prize, were recognized from around the nation for their outstanding influence on students. The awards are presented each year on Sondheim’s birthday (March 22) to a handful of teachers, kindergarten through college, who are nominated via the Kennedy Center website, kennedy-center.org/sondheimteacherawards.
