EXCLUSIVE: Watch Joshua Henry’s Emotional Recording Session of Carousel’s ‘If I Loved You’ | Playbill

Video EXCLUSIVE: Watch Joshua Henry’s Emotional Recording Session of Carousel’s ‘If I Loved You’ The new Carousel cast album will be released July 13.

Actor Joshua Henry earned his third Tony nomination earlier this year for his portrayal of Billy Bigelow in the Broadway revival of Carousel, currently playing the Imperial Theatre. Now, he and the company celebrate the cast album release July 13. Though the album was released digitally June 8, listeners will be able to purchase their physical copy of the album from Craft Recordings in partnership with the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization.

“I never thought that I'd be involved in something like this,” he says in the video above. “This is such a classic piece of musical theatre. To be singing these songs, ‘If I l Loved You’ and ‘Soliloquy,’ it's a big piece of history.”

Of course, Henry is a few months into his run of the show, which opened April 12, 2018, but recording the cast album for the revival production was another level of accomplishment for him. “I just had a son, he'll be able to hear me make history,” Henry marvels.

Carousel features a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II with music by Richard Rodgers, based on the play Liliom by Ferenc Molnár. The production, directed by Jack O’Brien, features Tony-winning choreography by Justin Peck. The revival also features orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, scenic design by Santo Loquasto, costume design by Ann Roth, lighting design by Brian MacDevitt, and sound design by Scott Lehrer. The production was nominated for 11 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, and won two for Best Choreography and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Lindsay Mendez.

Jessie Mueller, who earned a Tony nomination for her performance, stars alongside Henry as Julie Jordan, with Mendez as Carrie Pipperidge, Tony nominee Renée Fleming as Nettie Fowler, Tony nominee Alexander Gemignani as Enoch Snow, Margaret Colin as Mrs. Mullin, Tony nominee John Douglas Thompson as the Starkeeper, Amar Ramasar as Jigger, and Brittany Pollack as Louise.

Rounding out the cast are ensemble members Colin Anderson, Yesenia Ayala, Nicholas Belton, Colin Bradbury, Andrei Chagas, Leigh-Ann Esty, Laura Feig, David Michael Garry, Garett Hawe, Rosena M. Hill Jackson, Amy Justman, Jess LeProtto, Skye Mattox, Kelly McCormick, Anna Noble, Adriana Pierce, Rebecca Pitcher, David Prottas, Craig Salstein, Ahmad Simmons, Antoine L. Smith, Corey John Snide, Erica Spyres, Ryan Steele, Sam Strasfeld, Halli Toland, Ricky Ubeda, Scarlett Walker, Jacob Keith Watson, and William Youmans.
