LOS ANGELES -- Machinal, Sophie Treadwell's 1920s expressionistic drama, will be revived March 3 in a guest production at the 24th Street Theatre and will run through March 18. The inaugural production of Nomad Theatre Company, Machinal explores the soul of a young woman who is forced into an unhappy marriage. Seeking escape, she resorts to desperate and violent acts.

Directed by Louise Bale, the cast includes Dylan Bailey, Joni Efflandt, Elizabeth Ince, Josh Isely, Shea Kline, Eve Knapp, Tom Mesmer, Chris Mock, Melodey Mooney and Jeremy Schaeg.

Treadwell (1883-1970) was a reporter for the San Francisco Bulletin who covered such major stories as homeless women, the Mexican revolution and World War One. She wrote four novels and more than 30 plays. Machinal was written in 1928 and was inspired by the true-life murder trial of Ruth Snyder, who was found guilty and executed in the electric chair.

Bale recently joined the staff of the Mark Taper Forum as the Artistic Program Coordinator. She is a UCLA graduate.
