For the uninitiated, Stage Door allows members to add shows they have seen to their personal profile page and/or review them using a five-star rating system.
Created by stage fans Chris Johnson and Gordy French, the program enjoys a huge following with more than 8,200 users in 42 countries and continues to grow daily "by around 200+ per day," according to a release. The show database currently features nearly 700 titles — which appear displayed in one's profile by cover art.
Jeff Bowen, co-creator of [title of show], both supports and has helped in the development of the online community: "My favorite thing about it is that because users of Facebook (for the most part) use their real names — all the reviews and ratings have credibility — unlike anonymous sites."
The "Stage Door" application has recently added new features including "Shows I've Been In/Worked On" and "Shows I Want To See" in addition to the original "Shows I've Seen" option. The main page features now allow members to view their friends' reviews and updates. Also, users may control how their Stage Door boxes appear in their profiles.
The program will also soon add special editorial content like a Q&A feature; the creators hope to "form a relationship with the Broadway theatre community" and "be able to give back to the community through Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS," as an announcement notes. Among the program's current "Top Rated Shows" are The Pillowman, August: Osage County, [title of show], Wicked, the Last Five Years, Spring Awakening, Avenue Q, Parade, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Speech and Debate.
