Plays That Do! will feature works penned by nine young playwrights, all members of the 52nd Street Project. Among the actors scheduled to take part in the readings are Edie Falco, Josh Hamilton, Martha Plimpton, Bill Camp, Kevin Geer, Nancy Giles and Mary Louise Wilson. Show times are Dec. 9 and 10 at 7:30 PM and Dec. 11 at 3 PM. The 52nd Street Project, founded in 1981 by actor/writer Willie Reale is now its 25th year of bringing inner-city kids together with theatre artists.

The Project's Playmaking Stage One program, according to press notes, "teaches children how to develop characters, invent situations and, eventually, to write short plays. After a nine-week course, each child is assigned a pair of professional actors and their own dramaturg. The children interview the actors before going on a weekend writing retreat to upstate New York. Upon returning to the city, adult directors rehearse the plays with adult professional actors for free presentation before a general audience."

Although admission is free, reservations are required by calling (212) 642 5052. The Public Theater is located in Manhattan at 425 Lafayette Avenue.
