On October 27, audiences can watch the 2016 Tony-nominated revival of William Finn and James Lapine’s Falsettos in the comfort of their living room. The five-time Tony-nominated musical, captured on film in January 2017, airs as part of PBS’ Broadway’s Best series on Live from Lincoln Center.
The series also includes fall screenings of She Loves Me, Present Laughter, Indecent, and Holiday Inn, as well as an encore airing of documentary In the Heights—Chasing Broadway Dreams.
Directed by Lapine, Falsettos stars two-time Tony winner Christian Borle, two-time Tony nominee Andrew Rannells, two-time Tony nominee Stephanie J. Block, and two-time Tony nominee Brandon Uranowitz—all nominated for their performances in the production. The cast also includes Tracie Thoms, Betsy Wolfe, and Anthony Rosenthal. (Rosenthal will also be taking over the @LincolnCenter Instagram account this evening, posting throughout the night and the broadcast.)
The air date also marks the anniversary of the production’s opening night at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
The recording also played a limited run in movie theatres nationwide after a July 12 release.
Falsettos tells the story of Marvin, a gay man, his lover Whizzer, his wife Trina, Marvin and Trina's son Jason, and their extended “tight-knit family” as they struggle with the AIDS crisis of the early ’80s. The broadcast begins at 9 PM ET; check your local listings.
Early next year, PBS will also premiere a Live From Lincoln Center series of performances from a number of Broadway favorites, recording from concerts at The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Performers include Falsettos' Stephanie J. Block and Andrew Rannells, as well as Tony winners Sutton Foster and Leslie Odom Jr.
