News   Family Equality Council Will Honor New Musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert
The cast of the new Broadway musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert will be honored by the Family Equality Council at the organization's annual New York City awards dinner at Pier 60 April 25.

Night at the Pier, which is scheduled to begin at 6 PM, honors individuals and organizations who have demonstrated a commitment to helping LGBT families.

In addition to Priscilla, Lisa Cholodenko, screenwriter/director of the Oscar-nominated movie "The Kids Are All Right," and Mary T. Keane, a local foster care, adoption, and youth advocate, will also be honored.

"Our honorees have made significant contributions to the issues that matter to our families and they inspire us every day to ensure those parents and children have the same rights and protections as other American families enjoy," said Family Equality Council executive director Jennifer Chrisler in a statement.

Special guest Zach Wahls, whose speech defending marriage equality in Iowa made him a YouTube sensation, will serve as an awards presenter.

The Family Equality Council is the leading national organization that works to ensure equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender families by building community, changing hearts and minds, and advancing social justice for all families. Pier 60 is located at 23rd Street and the Hudson River. For more information and tickets, visit
