News Feb. 28 Drama Desk Panel Focuses on Spring Awakening and Grey Gardens Grey Gardens composer Scott Frankel and Spring Awakening producer Tom Hulce will be among the panelists in a Drama Desk discussion on Feb. 28 at 5:30 PM at BMI entitled "Moving On," about moving a show from Off-Broadway to Broadway.

Other panelists will include Andrew Hamingson, managing director of the Atlantic Theatre Company, where Spring Awakening had its world premiere; Tim Sanford, artistic director of Playwrights Horizons, where Grey Gardens had its world premiere; Michael Rosenberg, a producer of Grey Gardens; and Ira Pittleman, a producer of Spring Awakening.

The moderators will be Leslie (Hoban) Blake, an alternate theatre critic for WFUV-FM Radio and Vice President of the Drama Desk, and Ellis Nassour, a Playbill contributor and member of the Executive Board of the Drama Desk.

Grey Gardens opened on Broadway Nov. 2, 2006, after transferring from Playwrights Horizons, where it opened March 7, 2006. The musical, inspired by the 1975 documentary of the same name, was written by Doug Wright (book), Scott Frankel (music) and Michael Korie (lyrics) and directed by Michael Greif.

Spring Awakening opened at Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre Dec. 10, 2006, after transferring from the Atlantic, where it opened June 15, 2006. The musical is based on Frank Wedekind's 1891 play and has music by Duncan Sheik, lyrics and book by Steven Sater and direction by Michael Mayer.
