Macy Host Reopening Gala for Atlantic's Renovated Linda Gross Theater Oct. 1 The grand reopening of Atlantic Theater Company's main stage Linda Gross Theater, following an $8.3 million renovation, is celebrated Oct. 1. Atlantic founding company members Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy host the gala event.

The evening begins at 5 PM with a cocktail hour and musical tribute attended by Atlantic company members, Manhattan Borough president Scott Stringer and government officials.

Scheduled to attend are Giancarlo Esposito, Kristen Johnston, Ethan Coen, F. Murray Abraham, Katie Erbe, Larry Bryggman, Mary Beth Peil, Craig Lucas, Jan Maxwell, John Patrick Shanley and Eloise Mumford.

The landmark theatre, housed in a 19th century church, is located on West 20th Street in Chelsea. The scope of work included the renovation of the 6,300 square feet of space containing the 199-seat theatre, the expansion of a 5,100-square-foot basement to create an enlarged lobby with a suite of new restroom facilities, a new box office, improved handicap access, a prop-building workshop, a costume shop and backstage support offices.

Renovations and redesign of the theatre space, by Coburn Architecture, PC, included enlarging the stage, creating a dedicated load-in area for sets, and upgrading and expanding artist dressing rooms. The Linda Gross Theater is now completely compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Additionally, a custom designed "Name in Lights" illuminated wall was installed in the new lobby and acknowledges donors contributing $5,000 or more to the campaign. *

The New York premiere of Oliver Award winner Simon Stephens' Harper Regan, starring Mary McCann and directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch, is currently in previews and will officially open Oct. 10 at the Linda Gross. The limited engagement continues through Oct. 28.
