CHICAGO -- In what is billed as "an unprecedented collaboration by the Chicago theater community," The League of Chicago Theaters announced a program funded by a grant of $100,000 from Sears, Roebuck & Co.

"Sears Theatre Fever" will include the participation of 50 theatres across the city in a one-day "open house" on Feb. 28.

Six prominent theatres -- Chicago Cultural Center, Goodman Theatre, Northlight Theatre/North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, The Second City, Steppenwolf Theatre and the Theatre Building -- will provide a free introduction to the immediacy of hands-on theater.

The event is modeled after Kids' Night on Broadway -- and the costume sessions, choreography classes, makeup demonstrations, stage combat lessons, comedy improv seminar and audition instruction will all attempt to increase enthusiasm for theatergoing throughout the year.
