News Figueroa Replaces Arcilla in North Shore's Jesus Christ Superstar; Casting Now Complete Rona Figueroa, who eventually played Kim in the Broadway production of Miss Saigon, will portray Mary Magdalene in the North Shore Music Theatre's upcoming production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Figueroa, who replaces the previously announced Marie-France Arcilla, will join Nicholas Rodriguez as Jesus and Delisco as Judas for the Sept. 19-Oct. 8 run of the groundbreaking Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice rock opera. (Arcilla withdrew from the production to continue with Shout! The Mod Musical.) The official opening night is scheduled for Sept. 21.

The Jesus Christ Superstar company will also feature Whitney Avalon, Allison Blackwell, Phillip Boykin (Caiaphas), Daryl Calmeses (Simon), Shana Carr, Derrick Cobey, Colin Donnell (Peter), Michael Brian Dunn (Annas), Constantine Germanacos, Kevin Hale (Jude), John Hickok (Pontius Pilate), Miles Johnson, Holly Laurent, Jayme McDaniel Leo Nouhan (Thomas), Wayne Pretlow (King Herod), Christopher Regan, Jason Shuffler (James), Byron St. Cyr, Scott Sussman, Tory Bradlee, Shane Braz, Tori Cargill, Kara Doherty, Andrew Murdock and Steven Williams.

Robert Johanson will direct and choreograph the production, and the creative team will also include Matthew Smedal (music director), Campbell Baird (scenic designer), Greg Poplyk (costume designer), Jack Mehler (lighting designer), John A. Stone (sound designer) and Gerard Kelly (wig and hair Designer).

Jesus Christ Superstar debuted on Broadway in 1971. The musical, according to press notes, dramatizes "the excitement caused by [Jesus'] message, his betrayal, his trial before Pontius Pilate, and his ultimate sacrifice." Superstar features such songs as "Everything's Alright," "I Don't Know How to Love Him," "Gesthemane" and the title tune.

Rona Figueroa has appeared on Broadway in Lennon, Miss Saigon, Les Misérables and the Tony-winning revival of Nine. Her other theatrical credits include Dogeaters, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Turandot and The Wild Party. Figueroa has been seen on screen in "Dragonheart: A New Beginning," "Waiting in the Wings," "Third Watch" and "The Cosby Show." She also starred in the North Shore's production of Miss Saigon.
