News Fine Dining Returns to Goodspeed Campus With Re-Lit Gelston House The historic restaurant in the shadow of the Goodspeed Opera House will reopen for business this spring in East Haddam, CT.

The Gelston House, the site of a restaurant and tavern since 1736 and whose existing structure was built in 1853, is scheduled to reopen in April 2007 to coincide with the start of the Goodspeed Musicals season at the opera house, which is just steps away.

Under the direction of Iso Dedusaj, former manager of Manhattan's theatre-district eatery Café Un Deux Trois, The Gelston House will open as a "Fine American Bistro," serving a combination of steak, fresh seafood and pasta.

The two-time Tony Award-honored Goodspeed Musicals owns the Gelston House and is leasing the facility to Dedusaj.

In addition to the full-service fine dining menu and "tavern" menu, The Gelston House will include a special "Prix Fixe" selection for theatregoers. There will also be a "late night" post-theatre menu (available after 9 PM).

The interior of the restaurant will be completely remodeled to blend modern décor with period pieces. Included in the new layout of the landmark building will be an intimate lounge area located beneath the grand staircase and an outdoor bistro where the Riverside Beer Garden once stood.

The Gelston House can seat 350 patrons and will be open seven days a week; with lunch available each day.

The Gelston House previously operated as an inn as well as a fine dining establishment. Guest rooms at The Gelston House will reopen at a later date.

The new Gelston House will be a family run establishment helmed by Dedusaj and his brothers Tony Dedusaj and Benny Dedusaj; all veterans of the food service industry. Iso Dedusaj has managed several New York eateries in the theatre district including Carmine's, Madeline's French Bistro and Café Un Deux Trois. Dedusaj, who originally comes from Europe, has spent most of his life in Brooklyn and has nearly 20 years experience serving the theatre crowd.

The Gelston House, which is being leased by Dedusaj, is owned by Goodspeed Musicals (Michael P. Price, executive director).

Price said in a statement, "We believe that our patrons, who have greatly missed having The Gelston House as part of their theatre-going experience, will be thrilled with the atmosphere, ambiance and, the fantastic food that Iso and his family are sure to provide."
