Due to popular demand, First Daughter Suite, The Humans, Empanada Loca and Night is a Room are among the Off-Broadway productions that announced extensions this week.

The Public Theater's world premiere of Michael John LaChiusa's First Daughter Suite, a follow-up to the composer's 1993 musical First Lady Suite, officially opened Oct. 21 following previews that began Oct. 6. A historical fantasia in four parts, the story follows Patricia Nixon and daughters Tricia and Julie, Rosalynn and Amy Carter, Betty and Susan Ford, Patti Davis and mom Nancy Reagan, and Barbara Bush and daughter-in-law Laura as they navigate life in the public eye while striving to maintain complex private relationships. Performances will now run through Nov. 22.

The Verdict: Critics Review First Daughter Suite Musical.

The Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Stephen Karam's comedy-drama The Humans also announced a one-week extension Off-Broadway. The new work, which will reportedly receive a 2016 Broadway engagement produced by Scott Rudin, officially opened Oct. 25 to strong critical reviews.

The Joe Mantello-helmed play, which takes place during a family Thanksgiving dinner in Chinatown, Manhattan, sees tensions mount and secrets unveiled. Previews began Sept. 30 for an engagement now set to run through Dec. 27. Read reviews here. 

The Labyrinth Theater Company extends the world premiere of Empanada Loca starring Tony nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent), written and directed by Aaron Mark. The Sweeney Todd-inspired show officially opened Oct. 21 and continues through Nov. 15. Signature Theatre also announced a one-week extension of Naomi Wallace's Night is a Room, which will begin previews Nov. 3 starring Ann Dowd ("Compliance"). The third and final production of Wallace’s residency, helmed by Bill Rauch, will now run through Dec. 20 with a Nov. 22 opening night.
