The production, which is staged at the Castillo Theater, marks the first time any work by Beckett has been performed in Yiddish, according to the New Yiddish Rep. Performances continue through Oct. 13.
The work has been translated into Yiddish from the French and English versions by Shane Baker, who also stars in the production. It is staged with English and Russian supertitles.
Directed by Moshe Yassur, the cast also includes Rafael Goldwasser, Avi Hoffman, Nicholas Jenkins and David Mandelbaum.
Waiting for Godot premiered in 1953, and Beckett received the Nobel Prize in Literature for the absurdist play, which follows two characters, Vladimir and Estragon, as they wait endlessly and in vain for the arrival of someone named Godot.
