My First Time producer Ken Davenport is offering free tickets to the 10 PM performance on Nov. 7. Voters will receive one complimentary ticket when they present their newly issued voter registration cards a the box office.
"Voting for the first time, like having sex for the first time, is a very important milestone in every human being's life. Both events should be done with proper forethought and discussion and, of course, safety. The last thing you want to do is wake up the next morning and say, 'Oh my God, what did I do last night?' We hope that by offering free tickets to My First Time, those people who haven't 'done it' before will get out there this election and exercise their right. In fact, voting, like sex, is something that's even better with a partner! So don't do it alone. Grab a friend, talk about it, and get out there and do it!," Davenport said in a statement.
Presented in the style of The Vagina Monologues, the production features stories and anecdotes about people's first sexual experiences. My First Time officially opened Off-Broadway at New World Stages July 30.
Davenport directs a cast of four that includes Kathy Searle, Cydnee Welburn, Marcel Simoneu and Dana Watkins. Matthew A. Smith designed the production.
"In 1998," press notes read, "a decade before blogging began, a website was created that allowed people to anonymously share their own true stories about their First Times. The website became an instant phenomenon as over 40,000 stories poured in from around the globe that were silly, sweet, absurd, funny, heterosexual, homosexual, awkward, shy, sexy and everything in between. And now, these true stories and all of the unique characters in them are brought to life by four amazing actors in the acclaimed 90 minute play, My First Time." The open-ended run plays New World Stages, located at 340 West 50th Street. Tickets, priced $25, are available by calling (212) 239-6200. For more information visit www.MyFirstTimeThePlay.com.
