Anna D. Shapiro, who won a 2008 Tony Award for her direction of the Pulitzer Prize-winning August: Osage County, will direct. Scott Rudin is the producer.

Inspired by the death of a friend's father, David's play features approximately 15 characters. Additional casting will be announced at a later time.

The co-creator and head writer of "Seinfeld" told the Times that he will play "somebody very similar to Larry David – it might even be Larry David with a different name."

David added, "I thought it would be pretty cool to write a play someday. I didn’t think it’d be pretty cool to be in it. It’s not like I would go to the theater and look up on stage and say, 'I could be in that.' I didn’t thinking of myself playing the character, but of course I write characters very close to me."

Ticket information has yet to be announced.

Along with "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm," David's writing credits include "Saturday Night Live" and "Clear History." He recently appeared in Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee."
