Classic Arts News Five American Companies Will Give Out Contracts at Mississippi's International Ballet Competition Competitors in next year's U.S.A. International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi, will vie for contracts awarded by five American ballet companies, the Mississippi Clarion-Ledger reports.
Ballet Pacifica, Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley, Boston Ballet II, Miami City Ballet, and Washington Ballet Studio Company will each award a one-season contract to selected dancers.

The dancers will also compete, as they have in the past, for medals, scholarships, and cash awards.

A new contemporary showcase allows dancers eliminated in early rounds to perform again for additional exposure during the competition. Other events include a performance at the opening ceremonies by Ballet Hispanico, and a master class given by Garth Fagan Dance.

The competition, which is held every four years, takes place June 17-July 2. The 2006 event will be the competition's eighth.
